I produced this overview of the University of Florida’s first national summit on early childhood health, education and policy.

Early childhood studies is one of the highest priorities at the University of Florida. Campus wide, faculty from many disciplines are focusing their efforts to address collaboratively the grand challenges facing young children who are most vulnerable and their families. This momentum has spurred us to bring together many of the nation’s renowned researchers, educators, scholars, policy makers and leaders for an early childhood national summit, Starting Ahead. Staying Ahead.

This national summit, hosted by the University of Florida and the colleges of Education, Medicine, Public Health and Health Professions, and Law in concert with the Anita Zucker Center for Excellence in Early Childhood Studies, will serve as a convener of the nation’s outstanding thought-leaders. Collectively, we will address timely topics that interconnect research, policy and practice to establish science-informed actions and advocacy and inform the public about why investments in early childhood are critical.

I recorded the rest of the media, conducted the interviews, and wrote and edited the piece in my job as a multimedia specialist for UF Advancement.

I edited this piece and recorded the Rebecca Nagy and Stanley Kim interviews, as well as B roll around Century Tower, University House, and the Bull Gators and Big Max sculptures. Additional footage was incorporated from 160 over 90, GatorVision, UF Health, and VideoBlocks. Tom Bacsik filmed the Jeremy Foley interview.

A behind the scenes look of me working Grateful Gator Day.

Grateful Gator Day is an opportunity for UF students to thank UF donors for their generosity. Students will have the opportunity to write personal notes and give thanks that will reach up to 30,000 donors. Last year, alumni, parents, and friends invested $402.6 million in support of our students, programs and UF.

This initiative is a campus-wide effort, organized by the UF Office of Advancement, the Office of Student Affairs, the Grateful Gator Student Committee and in partnership with University Relations.

Prior to Grateful Gator Day 2016, I edited footage I shot at the event the year before to produce a promo for the 2nd annual event.

I attended the event, operating as a video booth for students to record thank you messages for the university’s annual donors.

“You’ve come to the right man, Mr. President.”

I was excited to have the opportunity to spookify this video for the Office of the President and help UF celebrate Halloween! They sent me the raw video clip of the bats and I brought in all the effects, graphics, and sound.

I collaborated with my colleagues in Advancement communications to produce this piece celebrating the 10th anniversary of the Machen Florida Opportunity Scholars program.

I filmed the opening shots of campus, while the rest of the clips are a remix of existing media gathered over the program’s history. I edited the piece and animated the photos and graphics.

Traveling to the beach isn’t a bad way to spend a work day! I got the chance to witness a historic patient release from the Sea Turtle Hospital at the UF Whitney Laboratory for Marine Bioscience in St. Augustine.

From a production stand point, I wish I had brought more lighting and microphone equipment, but I was trying to travel lightly and did not know that interviews would be part of the shoot when I packed my bag. Regardless, it was a neat event to be a part of and I’m still happy with the outcome as a whole.

I also provided some clips to University Communications, which they used to create a Now This-style piece for social media.
